    About the Book

    Edit

The book describes a 6-week trek by two Canadian geologists across southern India and Sri Lanka in 1994. One of them was a native of India who had lived part of his youth in India and was familiar with Indian ways and customs. This made the trip a more in-depth experience than would have been the case had we been simple tourists. The story is presented as a travel log based on nearly 1000 photographs – about half of which are shown in the book – supplemented by a diary or logbook meticulously kept by the author during the entire journey. The book covers both touristic activities and non-technical geological observations.

I'm a world traveler who enjoys nature and adventures of all kinds. I have explored much of the known world on business and for pleasure, most extensively in Europe, Africa, North and South America, India and China. From 1995 to the day I retired (June 2008), I managed International Development projects for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), mostly in Latin America and Africa. Before 1995, I worked as a geologist in Canada mostly on projects related to mineral exploration in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec and Saskatchewan. In my spare time, I like to travel, take pictures (photography) and research my family history (genealogy). I've been retired since June 2008, which means that I can now do all the things that I've always wanted to do but never had time before. This includes compiling a large proportion of the thousands of photographs that I’ve taken since 1969, when I bought my first camera, into illustrated story books.
